One of the most challenging aspects encountered by oculists in the production of external ocular prosthetics, whether made of glass or resin, has always been in seeking responses to the different diameters that the pupil presents, as it reacts to changes in intensities of light.
An almost perfect result can be achieved nowadays, assimilating the ocular prosthetic into the healthy eye, by way of new production techniques combined with the most revolutionary materials, yet the lack of change in the pupillary size denies it authenticity and realism.
The size of the healthy eye’s pupil often changes in response to differing light intensities, affecting the colour of the iris, with the difference becoming more marked during the day and night.
This new pupillary dilation system comprises an internal mechanism with a magnet slipped by the patient over the ocular prosthetic, changing the size of the pupil according to ambient requirements.
The aim is to increase trust by users of ocular prosthetics, making their artificial eye as realistic as possible and in some cases resolving the need to have two prosthetics for every occasion.
